Tunaenda Digital Newsletter September 2020

Dear Friends,

For the first time, the annual Nairobi International Book Fair (NIBF) will be held online at http://www.nairobiinternationalbookfair.co.ke/ from 24th to 26th September 2020. Organized by the Kenya Publishers Association (KPA), KPA members and other local as well as global publishers will exhibit online. The 2020 theme is Any Book, Anywhere! As a member of Kenya’s publishing community, eKitabu will also exhibit online at NIBF.

Last year our whole team was thrilled to showcase Digital Storytime with storytellers, children, parents and teachers at the Book Fair. This year we are expanding Digital Storytime online with more video storybook episodes, more partners and more learners from mainstream and special needs schools to leave no one behind in Kenya’s vision for inclusive and equitable quality education #SDG4.

At NIBF online we will also hold the eighth annual Digital Essay Competition (DEC) Prizegiving ceremony on 24th September. Hongera publishers, teachers, students, ministry officials, partners, and friends who have built DEC over the years. This year we have over 1,800 online entries from all across Kenya in English, Kiswahili, French, Art, and German categories including entries in braille and Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) video—all responding to the question: “How is technology helping you, your family, and your community during the coronavirus pandemic?”

It’s exciting to see students at primary and secondary levels sharing their ideas on this complex question that joins learners, teachers, and communities worldwide, all of us trying to cope with remote learning challenges. Please join us as we celebrate the 2020 DEC winners. Karibuni sana.

Warmest regards,
Will
