eKitabu Tunaenda Digital Newsletter November 2021
The official Digital Essay Competition Prizegiving will take place on Thursday 2nd December from 3-4 pm EAT on the eKitabu Facebook page. This year we received 13,476 essays from 41 counties of Kenya in the following categories: Kiswahili, English, Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) video, French, Art, German, Arabic, and essays submitted in braille.
In October, eKitabu held mini Digital Essay Competition (DEC) Prizegiving ceremonies at Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps to award-winning students in the camps who participated in DEC 2021 for the first time. In collaboration with Humanity & Inclusion in Kakuma and Dadaab, we had over 800 essay entries from the two camps all responding to the question: What are the hardest and best experiences you have had during the COVID-19 pandemic? In 2021 we also received entries in Arabic for the first time, over 50 entries in total.
DEC encourages students to use ICT in learning. It recognizes and rewards students—and the teachers, parents, and caregivers who support them. DEC prizes include scholarship money, computing devices, gift hampers, and national recognition with Kenya MOE for the achievements of students, teachers, and schools. Congratulations and all the best to all who joined in DEC 2021!
