eKitabu Tunaenda Digital Newsletter December 2021
As 2021 ends, the eKitabu team wishes you and your loved ones a peaceful end to this year and a rejuvenating new time for 2022.
We are grateful to everyone who worked and walked with us in 2021, and to the many friends in countries of Africa and beyond who helped us with their advice and their hands to deliver accessible digital content, software, and programs for inclusive and equitable quality education. In 2021, we have been learning together, lots of things. We have lost friends this year. We feel the loss of their hearts and minds, and we extend our warmest wishes to their loved ones.
In 2021, we reached over 4 million learners through Digital Story Time episodes in Studio KSL on KICD EDU Channel TV and YouTube. We gathered over 13,000 essays in the Digital Essay Competition from learners across Kenya. We engaged and designed with more than 350 teachers in training and support on Universal Design for Learning and utilization of accessible ICT in classroom practices in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. We worked with the International Publishers Association and publishers in Kenya, and also with Rwanda’s leading publishers to integrate accessibility into their development practices. And we held our second Family Of the Year Award, awarding 9 families and learning about their challenges, ideas, and how we can walk together.
We also thoroughly enjoyed conversations with colleagues—teachers, authors, publishers, parents, artists, government leaders, students, community organizers—that got us thinking. In 2022, we will welcome your ideas and feedback on how we can work together. I hope you get to enjoy some time with your most loved ones over the holidays. Looking forward to seeing you in the new year.
