Note From CEO – November 2015 Newsletter Issue

Karibuni sana Nyote,

Asante Walimu — today we thank all teachers who worked with us countrywide in the 2015 Digital Essay Competition!  We thank you on behalf of our entire digital ecosystem: families,  publishers, authors, device providers, network operators, government stakeholders, the nation itself — we all depend on the future that teachers deliver.

An American poet William Carlos Williams wrote,

so much depends                                                                                   upon

a red wheel                                                                                               barrow

glazed with rain                                                                                   water

beside the white                                                                             chickens.

So much that’s alive and practical and much that’s metaphysical depends on you the teachers, as my grandmother, my mother, my wife’s mother, my uncle, and I too have all been in our lives.

Walimu wa Kenya:  you supported your students again helping them go digital together.  This year with your help they created more digital essays than ever:  2,120 in total.  Thank you to all head teachers and teachers in the schools, especially the language teachers and ICT teachers who were the majority in 2015 again as in past years.  And thank you to the teachers who marked all the essays we received from 45 of 47 counties this year.  These same teachers were responsible for providing the written feedback that you have received on your pupils’ essays.

I thank you all sincerely, and here recognize 12 teachers among the many who participated.  These are just a few of the teachers that have joined and grown the impact of DEC in multiple years, several of them have had finalists or winners.  We are honored by the dedication of teachers countrywide and consider you sisters and brothers.
