eKitabu Rwanda launched the very first "Women & Books" event on 5 March 2026, marking an inspiring celebration of women’s voices in literature and the profound impact of storytelling, held shortly before International Women's Day. The event took place at the stunning rooftop offices of Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali (WSHK), organised with Westerwelle Startup Haus Kigali and Kigali Public Library.

The event also shone a light on the exceptional talent within Rwanda’s own literary community. Rwandan writers used this meaningful opportunity to connect directly with readers, share their journeys and inspirations, and proudly showcase the depth and richness of local storytelling.

More than a simple event, Women & Books provided a crucial platform for dialogue and personal reflection. Attendees shared heartfelt experiences about how reading and writing have impacted their lives, discussed the creative process, and explored the vital role literature plays in shaping ideas and strengthening communities. The gathering fostered a welcoming environment where diverse voices were heard and stories—from testimonies on how books inspire change to insights on the craft of writing—were genuinely shared.

A major focus of the night was the importance of supporting and elevating African literature. Participants were strongly encouraged to not only read more African stories but also to actively back authors by purchasing, recommending, and sharing their work.

This inaugural Women & Books event signals the start of a new initiative dedicated to uniting people who share a passion for literature. By regularly creating spaces where writers and readers can meet, exchange ideas, and celebrate books, the initiative aims to significantly strengthen the reading culture within the community.

The evening powerfully demonstrated literature's ability to forge connections, spark meaningful dialogue, and amplify women’s essential voices. This inspiring first edition has successfully laid the groundwork for many future gatherings that will continue to uplift writers, readers, and the powerful stories that unite them.
