The Nairobi International Book Fair is back, an amazing time to be a book lover in Nairobi! Happening from 24th to 28th this month at Sarit Expo Centre, Nairobi International Book Fair 2025 will bring together publishing professionals, authors, and readers from Kenya and around the world. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Readers, Shaping Futures”

eKitabu will be at the Fair (stands 12-17). For the first time, we will have a session focusing on AI and Robotics. Learners will code and assemble a robot through a program undertaken in collaboration with Microsoft, Clovernook, and ChipuRobo. They’ll also engage with accessible materials — 3D models, braille devices, storybooks — in collaboration with Clovernook. A headteachers’ workshop in collaboration with iHUB will aim to improve learning outcomes and equitable access to education. To celebrate the International Week of Deaf People, from 22nd to 28th September, eKitabu will offer free sign language lessons and engage in Digital Story Time with Deaf learners in Kenyan Sign Language.

At our stand, you’ll meet famous authors and artists — David G. Maillu, Empress Ciku Kimani-Mwaniki, Deborah Auko Tendo, Joan Thatiah, Vera Omwocha, GADO, Msanii, and many more who are shaping our literary landscape. And don’t forget Saturday — when it’s all about family fun! Children and parents will have a day of excitement that we’ve crafted with Storymoja!

For the first time, we will have a prize for great French children’s books in Africa, Le Prix de l’édition jeunesse Africaine. This prize recognizes excellence in French-language books authored and published in Africa for young readers. This prize connects readers across language borders, showcasing the richness of African creativity and promoting a shared love of writing and reading.

We will also have our annual Digital Essay Competition award ceremony at the Fair. Our question this year was, “What is your favourite book and why?” We have received over 15,000 essays from both mainstream and special schools. The prize-giving ceremony will take place on Friday, 26th September, from 10am to 1pm.

Warmest regards,

Will
